Last season the team got off to an ideal start, winning the Supercoppa and then winning consecutive opening matches, but then fell just short in the Coppa Italia, the league and the UEFA Champions League, failing to win a second title of the season.
Last season, the team continued to use the 3OH system (without a professional opposite player, three OHs and a libero participate in serve reception) and this season, the team is being replaced by a 38-year-old veteran who played for Japan's JTEKT.KAZYSKIHe has been converted from his original OH position to OP, and is no longer required to receive serves, but now plays a central role in the attack.
