Sekita Seita has transferred to Poland! He will play for Rubin, the team where Yanagida also plays!

August 24, 2021

Following Nishida Yuji's transfer to Italy, the transfer of national team setter Sekita Seita to the overseas team has also been officially announced! We already introduced this in an article in May. Sekita will play for Lubin in the Polish top league, PlusLiga (written as "PlusLiga" in Monthly Volleyball but pronounced "Prus" in Polish).

Sekita is the third Japanese player in the Prslyga after Taichiro Koga and Masahiro Yanagida. As for the Polish League as a whole, he is the fourth Japanese player, as Takahashi Sho also played in the second division. He is the first Japanese setter in the Polska League! As a Polish volleyball fan, I am very happy that there is another Japanese player!

What kind of team is Rubin, the team you belong to?

Cuprum Lubin (hereinafter referred to as Lubin) is a club team whose hometown is Lubin city in Dolni Silesia in southwestern Poland. For Japanese fans, it is famous as the team that Masahiro Yanagida played for in the 2018/19 season. It is about 6 hours by train from the capital Warsaw, and if you fly to nearby Wroclaw, it is about 1 hour by bus from there. I previously explained how to get there when Yanagida played for the team, but there have been many changes in the past three years, such as the opening of a train station and changes to the bus system, so I would like to write another article about the latest access information.

Rubin was founded in 2001 and was promoted to the Przliga in the 2014/15 season. In their second year after promotion, they achieved a good result of 5th place in the league with players such as Polish national team players Womachi, Kaczmarek, and Mojzińek, and German national team player Böhme, but since the 2018/19 season, when most of their main players left, they have been in 11th and 12th place, barely avoiding relegation matches, and have continued to struggle.

Rubin has changed a lot of its members from last season for the new season. Of the 14 registered members, only six were originally there, and the remaining eight, including Sekita, are new members. The head coach, Russek, who was assistant coach last season, has been promoted to the new team.

The player to watch is Colombian oppositeSiemensLast season, he was the third-highest scorer in the league's attack scoring rankings, and expectations are high for his scoring ability this season as well.GhierzotAlso worth checking out is the large outside player for the Polish U21 national team, who is a promising player who could be selected for the senior national team in the near future.Jellyfishare also strong candidates for the starting lineup. How will setter Sekita handle this mix of veterans and young attackers? I'm excited just thinking about it!
