On Saturday, May 10th, in the fourth match of the Polish Prslyga final, Lublin defeated Zawiercie 3-0 (25-22, 25-15, 25-18) to claim their first Prslyga title.
After the award ceremony, I spoke with Wilfred Leon, an outside hitter from Lublin and a member of the Polish national team.
T: Congratulations on your victory. How do you feel now?
Leon: Thank you. I have mixed emotions. So many emotions. It was a hard day and a hard match, but we succeeded. We won the gold medal. It may have been unexpected for many people, but I'm really happy that we were able to win.
T: What do you think was the reason for your victory?
Leon: We built a team not on the court, but in the locker room. I think that was our biggest success this season. Because we were able to create a good atmosphere there, we were able to carry that onto the court. That was a big thing.
You are the first player to win the Russian League, the Italian League and the Polish League.
Leon: I'm really happy about that. It's the result of all the hard work I've put in for years. Maybe in the future we'll win other league titles, but right now being the Polish league champions means a lot to me.
T: Next up is the Japanese league?
Leon: Maybe (laughs)
T: The club season is over now and the international season is about to begin.
Leon: Yes, the international season is coming up and I hope I can do my part and contribute to the success there as well.
