The third match of the Polish Przyga Playoffs third place deciding match between Warsaw and Jastrziebuski Wenger was held on Wednesday, May 7th local time, and Warsaw won a fierce battle 3-2 (21-25, 25-19, 25-22, 25-23, 15-12) to secure third place in the league.
After the third-place ceremony, we spoke with Warsaw captain and former Polish national team middle blocker Andrzej Wrona, who will retire at the end of this season.
T: Congratulations on third place.
Vrona: Thank you for the congratulations. Right now, I'm grateful for the experiences I had with this teammate this season. Of course, our dreams and goals were much higher than this bronze medal. But right now, I'm also very happy with this third place. Winning three games in a row against Jastrzebski in the playoffs really means a lot and I think it's the result of us giving it our all. We bounced back from a loss in the Polish Cup to play in the semi-finals against Zawiercie, lost there and then played again in the third place match. That's proof that this team has determination and a strong heart. So I'm really proud of this team.
T: This turned out to be your last official match. How did you feel during the warm-up and how do you feel now?
Vrona: Honestly, it was a strange feeling. I didn't know if it was my last game or not. But now I know that it was my last game in the league. It's a strange feeling, but I'm grateful for all the 25 years I've spent with volleyball. So I'm looking forward to meeting my fans, friends and family again and being on the court with them on May 23 in Warsaw.
T: What does volleyball mean to you?
Vrona: I can't imagine a life without volleyball. I've been practicing since I was 10 years old, and I can't imagine a life without practice days and preparation for matches. I don't know any other life. So I don't know what the future holds.
