The Wagner Memorial Cup is an invitational tournament hosted by Poland and held every summer. This year, which is an Olympic year, Poland was invited to compete in the tournament along with Slovenia, Germany, and Egypt, three countries scheduled to compete in the Paris Olympics. Poland won all of their matches and won the tournament.
After the tournament, we spoke with Poland's coach, Nikola Grbic.
TOSHIKI: What is your impression of the current Japanese team? What are your expectations for next week's friendly match against Japan?
Grbic: I think they will win a medal in Paris. They are not an easy team to play against. They are patient, very technical, and put pressure on you with their serves. They don't give you points. So it will be very tough to play against them. They have a high quality team. One of the reasons I wanted to invite Japan so much is because we need an opponent who can help us improve. So I'm very happy that they accepted the invitation and will come to Poland to play against us. I'm sure it will be a great match.
