Result: Poland-Germany 3-2 (20-25, 22-25, 25-19, 25-21, 15-12)
Kampa played as a starting setter and scored one point.
Toshiki: How do you feel looking back on today's game?
Kampa: We were lucky to have a deep bench that could turn the tide of a match in many different situations. There aren't many teams in the world that can come back from 14-18 down (in the third set after losing the first and second sets). They were in trouble, making a lot of mistakes, while we were dominating and controlling the game. But then OH Fornal and MB Bieniek came in and improved our serving, and that helped the team regain its confidence. When a team like this regains even a little bit of confidence, they become very difficult to beat.
TOSHIKI: Unfortunately, following yesterday's loss to Slovenia, you have now lost in full sets for the second day in a row. What does this mean to you?
Kampa: It doesn't mean much, but overall it's a good sign that we were able to go to full sets against these two tough opponents. Of course it would have been better for our mood and confidence to have won at least one, but I think we're in a really good position right now. We're hard to beat. We know that the best teams in the world have had a really hard time playing against us so far. Now we're going to take it away. We have one more game tomorrow and we need to dominate and win it. Then we'll all be happy with the tournament and we'll be ready to prepare for the next one.
Toshiki: Let me ask you about the Paris Olympics. What was your impression when Germany was placed in Pool C with Japan?
Kampa: There are no easy matches in this group. Of course, Japan plays very clean and very good volleyball, but we played very good matches against them in the Nations League, full-set matches. So we can beat them and I think we can reach our goal of the quarterfinals. The rest is just a matter of daily efforts. I'm honored to be playing the opening match of the Olympics against Japan. I hope that we'll be ready for the 9am match and get off to a good start.
Toshiki: How was the Nations League Fukuoka tournament?
Kampa: It was a great experience. Not only in Fukuoka, but also in Shiba, where we trained. The whole team kept saying how good it felt and how wonderfully welcomed we were by the local people. It's just a really, really good memory. It was a great pleasure. Hopefully we can come back soon.
