Poland's Silivka: "My goal at the Paris Olympics is to win a medal, I'm not going to say what color it is, I'm just going to focus on the match in front of me" - Interview after the third-place match in the Men's Volleyball Nations League 2024

July 2, 2024

Toshiki: How are you feeling now?

Ślivka: It feels good. I'm happy to win the bronze medal in front of our home fans. It's very important for us to give them energy and they give us energy back. So it's always great to play here in Poland. The fans did a great job and deserved this medal.

Toshiki: I believe you were off the bench for yesterday's semi-final, but what did you think of yesterday's game?

Silivka: It was very stressful to sit and watch from the bench because I couldn't do anything to help the team. Yesterday's game was very stressful and close, and very tough. How we reacted to that was important, but were you able to control the game today with a lot of energy and focus?

Toshiki: Today's opponent was Slovenia, a country that often beats Poland, so I imagine there was extra pressure.

Širivka: Slovenia is one of the best teams in the world, so we are not the only ones who have a hard time. We have played many tough matches against Slovenia in recent years, but I respect them. Slovenia is a really, really, really good team. Today's match was one of many, so there was no particular pressure. No matter who we are playing, no matter who the best team in the world is, we just focus on ourselves, what happens on our court, and do our best. This approach always brings good results. Today we won with that.

TOSHIKI: Tomorrow we will begin our final preparations for the Paris Olympics. What aspect of the team would you most like to improve?

Sirifka: We can improve all aspects. We are a nearly complete team, with no particular weaknesses and I think all volleyball aspects are good. We just need to combine them to be in the best possible form for the Paris Olympics. Mentality is also very important, so we will work on all aspects to become a better team. Of course, the coaching staff will analyze all the game data, so they will know which elements were good and which were not. We will practice again based on that.

Toshiki: What is your goal at the Olympics? What color medal?

Silivka: It's hard to say. Our dream is to win a medal there. We know it will be a tough tournament because the top 11 out of 12 teams will participate in the Olympics. It will be a really tough tournament, but we are a strong team and we are confident in our abilities. Our goal is to win a medal. Of course, we can say "we are going for the gold medal," but we are focused on the process of continuing to get better, on each game in front of us, not on the future.
