In the first match of the Italian Men's Volleyball League playoff semi-finals, Monza, the team played by Ai Takahashi, faced Trentino on Sunday, March 31st local time, and lost 0-3 (25-27, 20-25, 22-25).
Post-match interview with Marco Gazzini (Libero)
Toshiki: How do you feel looking back on today's game?
Gazzini: It was a tough match. We had just played three days before, and they are a very good team, so we have to maintain our top level of play throughout the match, in every set. We had our chances in the first set, but we couldn't take it. They didn't make any mistakes, and instead closed the set with two aces. In the next two sets, we got about three breaks early on and kept that lead until the end. They continued to maintain a high level of play. We have to fight more on Wednesday. In the next match, we will be on the same level and face them.
TOSHIKI: What do you think is specifically needed to beat Trentino in the next match?
Gazzini: What we need is... well, it's difficult. Technically, we need to be at the top level in everything, and we also need passion because they have a very good defense. We know that it will be a long rally. We can't get depressed mentally when the opponent plays well. For example, if we score on the edge of the line, there's nothing we can do. That's on us and on the opponent. We need to work hard on the areas where we can change better. That's all.
Toshiki: I'd like to ask you about Ai Takahashi. What kind of person is he to you?
Gazzini: He's an incredible person. He's kind and very funny. At first we couldn't speak English well to each other, but now we talk about anything and everything, from games to anime and manga. He's very funny.
Toshiki: What anime or manga will you be talking about?
Gazzini: We talk about all kinds of anime and manga, but especially One Piece. We talk about One Piece a lot. Two days before (the release of Jump), I tell him, "I saw the spoilers!" but he doesn't want to hear them (laughs).
Toshiki: Who is your favorite character?
Gazzini: This is Law. Trafalgar D. Law.
Toshiki: Why?
Gazzini: Style and mood. Zoro is my second favorite, but Law is my favorite. I also like his Ope Ope no Mi powers. It's an amazing power.
