Coach Kento Hayashi: "It was a great experience and I want to make use of it next time" Interview after the Coppa Italia women's semi-final

February 18, 2024

In the women's volleyball Coppa Italia quarterfinals, Chieri, coached by Hayashi Kento, played against Conegliano on Saturday, February 17th local time, and lost 0-3 (18-25, 16-25, 12-25).

Post-match interview with Coach Kento Hayashi

T: How do you feel looking back on the match?

Kent: I think the main reason we lost was that we couldn't make any attacks and couldn't improve the effectiveness of our attacks. Another big reason we lost was that our playing area was very low. We always set the ball from under the net, so we could see the ball from there, react, and block it. On the other hand, the opposing setter, Vołosz, handled the ball at a high position, always had the middle shot, and also went to the side, so I think the difference in playing area was very evident.

T: What was the biggest difference compared to the last time, when you lost but came close to winning in a full set?

Kent: The big difference is whether Kelsey (Cook) was there or not. She had a stable reception, and at first she was targeting Plummer, but halfway through Kelsey started covering and the pass (serve reception) started to come back, so our serve target didn't work well. I think that was the big difference.

T: Unfortunately you lost the match, but how do you feel about playing in the Coppa Italia semi-final at this venue?

Kent: The audience was amazing, and it was like a festival, so I personally think it was a very good experience to come to the Final 4 of the Coppa Italia. There is still the league and the CEV Cup. The issues we found today are clear, so we would like to correct them and move on to the next step. It was a great experience for our team to play in this kind of environment, so we would like to make the most of it.
