Comments from Coach Kento Hayashi
For the match against Vallefoglia, fans came to fill almost all the seats, and we were able to play in a fantastic atmosphere.
In terms of the match, we were able to serve effectively from the beginning. Although our opponent's serve reception was not good in some places, our serves worked well and we were able to continue to break down the opponent's outside play, and then we were able to tighten our blocks, play cross-court defense, and launch counter attacks, which I think was great.
At one point, we had trouble picking up crosses from the opposing player OH Degrady, which allowed them to keep scoring on attacks, but we were able to give instructions to the blockers from behind to correct this, and I think it was good that we were able to gradually take away the opponents' options.
Regarding the attacks, OH Omorui and OP Groberna kept hitting the line (straight), creating a situation where the opponent's blockers could not close, which I think was a big factor in the attacks continuing to go through. Kaya (Globerna) in particular continued to launch good attacks.
It would be terrible for attacks from behind the setter to continue to be a threat, so I think she did a great job.
As for the defense, as I mentioned earlier, L. Spirito has been doing a good job of raising the opponent's spikes. He has been performing at a high level not just in the last few games, but in several games in a row, and has been the core of our defense, so I think that was also great.
In addition, there was a moment when S. Marinov's spike serve led to a great break. Setters who can score with serve, block, and attack are becoming more and more popular among men, and I hope she will be able to stand out as one of them. She has the ability and is a player who was always there, and I think she is now trying to become a new Marinov player, so I hope you will look forward to her growth from here.
