Match Report

The first set started with both sides trading side outs and the match was tied at 8-8. But with a spike from MB Gassman, Chaumont made several breaks and took a 9-11 lead. Paris caught up at 12-12 with a spike from MB Wetter, but then an ace from OH Suihikonen put Chaumont in the lead again at 13-15. From there, Paris scored with a spike from OH Cowell, but they were unable to score consecutive points, and on the contrary, a spike from OP Indra and a service ace widened the gap for Chaumont, who took the set 21-25.

In the second set, Paris took a 7-5 lead with an ace from OP Miyaura. But a spike from OH Cardoso quickly tied the score at 7-7, and then a spike from OP Indra and a block from MB Marshman gave Chaumont six consecutive breaks to pull away from Paris at 8-14. Paris then narrowed the gap to 15-19 with a service ace from MB Marce, but Chaumont immediately extended the lead again with three consecutive breaks to 15-23. A block from MB Marshman at the end gave Chaumont a 17-25 lead.

In the third set, OP Miyaura's two consecutive service aces gave Paris a big lead at 6-2 in the early stages. However, Chaumont quickly tied the score at 7-7 with attacks from OP Indra, and then OH Suihikonen's service ace made a comeback to 10-11. After that, Paris made a series of mistakes to make it 12-15, and then OH Cardoso's spikes were successful in succession to make it 14-21 for Chaumont. Paris held on in the final stages with a service ace from S Mottapaes and a block from OP Miyaura to make it 19-23, but in the end, MB Gassman's spike was successful to give Chaumont a 20-25 lead.

As a result, Paris lost 0-3 to Chaumont.

MVP: OP Patrik Indra 15 points (1 attack, 1 serve), attack efficiency rate 76%

It's very strict.

Cowell, a winger who had performed well in the previous match, started this game from the start and showed some good form, but Paris' attacks just couldn't get going.

Chaumont's team attack success rate was quite high at 61%, while Paris' was only 43%. Unlike previous matches where they were defeated by the opponent's blocks and serves, in this match Paris' attacks were well received, while Paris was unable to respond to Chaumont's attacks. They were unable to do much against Indra in particular, and their attack success rate was an astonishing 76% (and they did not lose any attacks).

One of the reasons why Paris' attack success rate was not improved was that S. Mottapaes's sets were not stable in this match. In particular, his sets against MB Merce were low throughout the match, and there were several wasteful scenes where he missed scoring chances. In addition, it seemed that there were few scenes where the attackers were able to shoot comfortably.

I saw how shocked he looked after the match, so I think Mottapaes himself is also feeling the pain. He is still young at 20 years old, so I hope he can rise up from this point.

Similarly, Miyaura's attack numbers did not go up. He did not lose many points on attack, but his opponent was able to pick them up. However, he had a good serve, scoring a total of three service aces, so he needs to maintain his serve and improve his attack numbers.

Following this defeat, there were reports that the head coach of Paris Vallee was likely to be fired. I don't think it's confirmed yet, but I hope that the change of coach will help the team to be reborn.

Also, Chaumont, who we played against this time, had Finland's Suihikonen, who gave Japan a hard time in the Paris Olympic qualifiers this year. There are many players in the French league that I don't know very well, so I'm happy just to see some players I know a little bit about.

In fact, even though Chaumont is a French team, there was not a single French player in the starting lineup. I knew that there are no foreign player quotas in the French league, but I was surprised that there was a team that really did not have a single French player. Even so, the team is supported by local fans, so as long as the team is rooted in the community, the nationality of the players does not matter.
