The results of the fourth day (September 23rd) of the final tournament of the 2025 Men's Volleyball World Championships are as follows.
1st round (Round of 16)
Czech Republic - Tunisia
3-0 (25-19, 25-18, 25-23)
The match between the Czech Republic, second in Pool H, and Tunisia, first in Pool A, showed a clear difference in ability.
In the first set, the Czech Republic took the lead 25-19 with consistent performances from OH Vasily and OH Galabov on both offense and defense, and in the second set, the Czech Republic took the lead with a total of four service aces, winning 25-18.
At the start of the third set, Tunisia took a big lead with a service ace from OH Benslimene and maintained a five-point lead until the middle of the set at 14-19, but a service ace from OH Galabov and some Tunisian mistakes allowed the Czech Republic to turn the game around and make it 20-19. In the end, OP Indra scored a perfect attack to make it 25-23, giving the Czech Republic a 3-0 victory. This was their first time in 43 years since the 1982 tournament that they had advanced to the quarterfinals of the World Championships.
Iran - Serbia
3-2 (23-25, 25-19, 24-26, 25-22, 15-9)
The match between two regular Nations League teams, Serbia, who finished first in Pool H, and Iran, who finished second in Pool A, was the only full-set match in the first round.
In the first set, Serbia took the lead mainly through attacks from OP Luburic, and Iran came close in the final stages, but OH Peric's pipe attack held off Serbia to win 23-25. The second set was a back-and-forth battle until the middle, but Iran pulled away with blocks and service aces in the final stages to take the set 25-19.
Serbia was leading 17-20 until the middle of the third set, but Iran took the lead 24-23 with a block in the final minutes, but a service ace from MB Stefanovic gave Serbia the final win at 24-26. The fourth set was a close one until the end, but Iran won 25-22 with solid scoring from OH Haghparast and OH Morteza in crucial moments, forcing the set to a full set.
In the fifth set, Iran took a 4-1 lead due to Serbia's mistakes from the start. OP Hajapour's service ace further increased the lead to 10-5, and in the end, a Serbia serve error made it 15-9, giving Iran a 3-2 victory. This is Iran's first time in the quarterfinals in 11 years, since the 2014 tournament.
