The results of the third day (September 22nd) of the final tournament of the 2025 Men's Volleyball World Championships are as follows.
1st round (Round of 16)
Bulgaria – Portugal
3-0 (25-19, 25-23, 25-13)
A European showdown between Bulgaria, who are on a roll after finishing first in Pool E, and Portugal, who advanced to the finals after finishing second in Pool D.
In the first set, OH Nikolov and OH Asparuhov showed consistent scoring power to give Bulgaria a 25-19 lead. In the second set, Portugal held on with attacks from OH Marques and aces from OH Lorenzo, but Bulgaria's high blocking and the offensive power of OH Nikolov won the close match 25-23. In the third set, Bulgaria overwhelmed Portugal with a total of six aces, including three from OH Atanasov, to take a large margin of victory of 25-13, winning 3-0 and advancing to the quarterfinals.
America – Slovenia
3-1 (19-25, 25-22, 25-17, 25-20)
The United States, ranked first in Pool D, and Slovenia, ranked second in Pool E. Both teams participated in the Paris Olympics, but this time they were competing with different members (especially the United States), so it was a match between two teams.
In the first set, Slovenia took a comfortable 19-25 lead thanks to the finishing power of OP Stern and OH Mujanovic. However, in the second set, the USA took the lead 25-22 thanks to attacks from OP Garcia and aces from OH Champlin. In the third set, OP Garcia was outstanding with four blocks and three aces, giving the USA a comfortable 25-17 victory. The fourth set started with long rallies and remained close until the end, but in the final minutes, OP Garcia hit two aces to take the set 25-20 and give the USA a 3-1 victory.
