On Monday, September 15th, Japan faced Canada in the qualifying round of the 2025 Men's Volleyball World Championship (World Volleyball) and lost 0-3 (20-25, 23-25, 22-25).
As a result, Japan was eliminated from the qualifying round.
After the match, Japan men's volleyball team coach Laurent Thiry said the following in an interview with Volleyball World:
"In the last two matches against Turkey and Canada, our spikes were not effective enough. Also, Turkey and Canada had very good serves, while we were a little bit inconsistent in this area.
The unfortunate thing was that we were catching up, but in the process we made some silly mistakes. They're always silly mistakes, but it was a shame. We just weren't consistent in general.
We have now been eliminated from the World Championships for sure. It is very disappointing. Of course, we have to analyze what happened (in this match) and prepare for the next step, next year.
We need to stay calm and think about next year."
Our next match of the season will be against Libya at 10:30pm on Wednesday the 17th.
