France's Brizard: "The most dangerous player in Japan right now is Miyaura" "I was surprised but happy to receive the offer from Osaka Bourthéon" [Men's Volleyball Nations League]

We had the opportunity to speak with France setter Antoine Brisard after the match between France and Ukraine, which took place in Bulgaria during the second week of the Volleyball Nations League 2025 Men's Qualifying Round on Wednesday, June 25th local time.

Since it was after a straight-set victory, he was very cheerful when he answered the interview questions.

Toshiki: Congratulations on your victory. How does it feel to be back in the VNL as captain?

Brizard: Thank you. It's always fun to play in the VNL. I've had a few weeks off, so I'm still practicing, and to be honest I'm not at my best yet. But it's fun watching my teammates play, and I'm able to support them, so I think I'm off to a good start.

Toshiki: What do you think about the current young French national team?

Brizard: They are very talented and have a lot of potential. However, they are still very young, so there is a lot to do. But I think they are doing very well so far. We (experienced players) try to tell them how this team has won and how they should be as a team. The French national team is a bit of a special team. But I think they are doing very well so far.

Toshiki: Tomorrow we'll be playing against Japan. What is your impression of this year's Japanese team?

Brizard: We are still missing some of our main players, but Japan plays great in those situations, as they did in last year's VNL. They have a very good defense, they don't make mistakes easily, and they recycle the ball well, so it will be a tough and long game tomorrow. But it's always fun to play against Japan.

Toshiki: Who is the most dangerous player in Japan? Coach Tille? (laughs)

Brizard: No (laughs), definitely Miyaura. He's our main player right now, and he has the power to change the game with his serve and his spikes. He's fun to watch, very powerful and impressive. But Japan is playing very well, not just with him, but as a whole team.

Toshiki: Are you scheduled to be in the starting lineup for tomorrow's game?

Brizard: No, I don't think he'll be in the starting lineup (laughs).
