In the second round of the Italian Men's Volleyball League, Ishikawa Yuki's Milan team played against Piacenza on Sunday, October 29th (local time) and lost 0-3 (23-25, 21-25, 23-25).

Match Report

In the first set, Milano took the lead 9-6 with three consecutive points, including an ace, from MB Rosell's serve, and then 14-10 with two consecutive aces from MB Piano. However, after that, OP Romano's spike and S Brizard's service ace tied the score at 16-16, and then OP Romano's service ace took the lead at 19-21. From there, both teams traded side-outs, but in the end, MB Ricci's spike was successful and Piacenza won the set 23-25.

In the second set, Piacenza got consecutive blocks from the beginning and took a 2-3 lead. Milano scored points mainly from OP Dirlic, but Piacenza continued to break the ball with constant service aces from OH Lucarelli and spikes from OP Romano, widening their lead to 9-13. In the final stages, OH Ishikawa's spikes and MB Vitelli (Italy), who entered the match as a substitute, narrowed the gap to 19-21, but then OH Lucarelli scored consecutive spikes to give Piacenza a set point at 20-24. Finally, OH Ishikawa's serve hit the net, and Piacenza took the set 21-25.

In the third set, Milan started with MB Vitelli and OH Melgarejo (Cuba). In the beginning, Milan made a lot of mistakes and Piacenza took the lead 2-6, but OH Melgarejo's spikes and serves allowed Milan to catch up at 7-7. However, S Brizard's spikes and others made breaks and Piacenza took the lead 11-14, and MB Simon's spikes and service aces widened the gap to 18-22. In the final stages, Milan brought in OH Kaziyski as a relief server, who made consecutive breaks from serves to close the gap to 22-23, but in the end OH Leal's spikes made it 23-25 and Piacenza took this set as well.

As a result, Milan lost to Piacenza 0-3.

I felt that the Milan players lacked passion. Their blocking didn't work very well. It's standard to aim for Real with a serve, but even if they broke through and took the ball to the high position, it was easily scored with a light hit to the hand. Real's high offensive power goes without saying, and their hitting point is high, and even if you're not good at receiving, if you just put it up, Blizzard will give you a good two-step and hit it hard, so Milan had to work hard to block with a half-spirited feeling of stopping it no matter what and picking it up. I was also expecting Catania's digging, but it didn't work. Ishikawa was in bad form and made too many serve errors. It's when you're in a bad form that you need to get back in shape with your spirit, but it seemed cold from start to finish. On the other hand, Piacenza's blocking and defense were good, and Ishikawa hit it straight at the digger, which was picked up and countered every time. Was it just a missed shot, or was the blocker tightening the course and forcing him to hit it straight at the front? Ishikawa is not the type to go for the block and go for it, but the type to slip through the blocks, so Leonardo and Lucarelli's positioning was good. As expected from the national team libero. He has studied Ishikawa thoroughly. Milan's issues are Kaziski's reception and Zonta's lack of accuracy in tossing. I don't know when Porro will return, but he's a young setter, so it can't be helped. Veterans like Ishikawa and others should have scored points with serves and blocks to make up for Zonta's mistakes, but they made too many serve mistakes. They lack concentration. Especially in the third set, the two-stage tosses and overhand passes were sloppy. It's not like Ishikawa. Kaziski can't hit high balls as aggressively as Real Madrid, he's old so he can't fly that high, and he doesn't fly vertically, he flies diagonally and his axis is off, and his timing with Zonta isn't right, and he's not as good at getting rebounds as Ishikawa, so it's tough to be targeted by his serves. Then I'll change to Melgare, but he's not good at passing either. But he has high physical ability, so he can hit high balls and hit them hard with a high impact point. His serve is also good. Peter has finally been playing properly since the first match, but he still can't get the ball to go through because he's not in sync with Zonta. I can't help the lack of accuracy, but he should hit it hard even if it's not quite right. I don't care if he can't hit it because it's low, but he should take the risk and go for the shot without being afraid to hit it. Even if he returns the ball, the other team's counter attack is highly accurate, so Milano's block is not working, and I would like him to hit it hard rather than returning a chance ball.
I hope the Milan team will approach the next match with a different mentality! They must avoid a third consecutive loss!
