Kaziski: "Improvements are needed"

October 21, 2022

The Italian men's volleyball league Serie A held a match between Trento and Civitanova in Trento on Friday, October 20th (local time), with Civitanova coming from behind to win 3-2 (17-25, 20-25, 25-22, 32-30, 15-13).

After the match, we spoke with Trento's Matej Kaziski (OH, Bulgaria, former JTEKT).

-What are your thoughts looking back on the match?

Kaziski: It was a very tough match. Fortunately, we were able to lead well in the first two sets, but in the third set we let them come back because we, or rather I, missed three serves in the third set. That led to a change in the third set and the whole game. Roubaix played better by changing his positioning. We had some problems in today's match, especially my attack was not at a good level. Anyway, we fought and played a great match. I'm very happy with the team and the way we fought. But we need to improve.

--Today you played completely as an opposite. Was it difficult?

Kaziyski: Yes. We didn't have enough time to adapt. First of all, we had to change our setter. We've only been playing with (new setter) Nicolo DePalma for two weeks, or maybe a week and a half, but I think we've already got a good connection.

--Is it still not clear whether starting setter Sbertoli can return?

Kaziyski: Unfortunately, he is injured and will probably miss one more game.

-About Nishida Yuji, you played in Italy last season, but this season you will be returning to JTEKT in Japan.

KAZYSKI: He wanted to test his level (in Italy) and did a great job. Unfortunately, he got injured in the middle of the season and had to leave the court, so he couldn't help the team. Even so, I think he was able to see some great games and I think (challenging Italy) was a good decision for him. Now I hope that he will lead JTEKT and we will hear good results.
