MVP award-winning Perugia captain Gianelli: "Ishikawa is the MVP" [Interview with the European Champions League volleyball team winners]

On Sunday, May 18th (local time), the final of the men's volleyball European Champions League was held in Lodz (Poland), where Yuki Ishikawa's team, Perugia (Italy), defeated Zawiercie (Poland) 3-2 (25-22, 25-22, 20-25, 22-25, 15-10) to win their first championship. Ishikawa was included in the starting lineup as in the semi-finals, and contributed greatly to the team's victory with 20 points, the second highest on the team.

After the victory ceremony, Perugia captain Simone Giannelli had this to say about his MVP award:

Janelli: "Ishikawa is the MVP"

I didn't really think about winning the MVP award. I think (Yuki) Ishikawa deserved it. He played really well in the fifth set and I think the MVP was his.

To begin with, I wasn't playing for the MVP award, I was fighting for this gold medal, for my team, for my teammates, and to show the results of my daily practice.

So I'm very happy to have won this trophy and I can't wait to bring it back to Perugia.

*The MVP was decided based on the votes of reporters at the end of the second set. It is believed that other individual awards were also decided based on that.
