Yuki Ishikawa was named MVP with 19 points, the most for both teams! Perugia beat Cisterna to record 15th consecutive league win

On Sunday, January 5th local time, in the fourth round of the second half of the Italian Superlegga, Perugia, where Ishikawa Yuki plays, will face Cisterna, where Tarumi Yume plays.

In the first set, Perugia took a 5-2 lead early on with two service aces from S. Gianelli. Then, from OH Ishikawa's serve, Perugia made five consecutive breaks, including two aces, to extend their lead to 3-12. After that, Perugia continued to score points, mainly from OH Ishikawa's attacks, and in the final stages, they were 14 points ahead at 20-6, and finally finished with a quick from MB Rosell to comfortably take the first set at 25-11.

In the second set, Perugia took the lead again at 10-6 with OP Ventara's service ace and attack. After that, Cisterna held on with OP Fall's attack, but Perugia took the side out with high success rate attacks centered around OH Ishikawa, and did not allow Cisterna to score consecutive points. In the end, OH Ishikawa scored a pipe attack from the back court and Perugia won this set 25-20.

The third set was a close match in the beginning. Cisterna took the lead in the middle with an OP Fall attack, leading to 10-13. However, MB Rosell's block quickly tied the score at 14-14, and the match resumed with both teams scoring points mainly from the side attacks. In the final stages, Perugia took the lead at 21-18 with an ace from OH Semeniuk and a block from MB Sole, and then OH Semeniuk's attack put them at 24-21, bringing them to match point. From there, Cisterna held on with an ace from MB Nedeljkovic, leading to 24-23, but in the end, OH Ishikawa, who was in top form that day, closed the match with an attack to make it 25-23, and Perugia won 3-0.

Ishikawa Yuki was in the starting lineup that day. He was a big star with 19 points, the most for both teams, including two service aces. His attack effectiveness rate was also an astonishing 791 TP3T (1001 TP3T until the second set). In the last Coppa Italia quarterfinals against Modena, he was substituted midway through the match, but on this day he showed a spectacular performance that seemed to release his frustration, exciting the crowd. I think that setter Giannelli was drawn to Ishikawa's spirit and entrusted him with the toss.

Although they conceded two points in their issue with serve reception, they held up well considering that they were targeted by the opponents' serves and received about half of their total serves. Also, taking into account their offensive performance mentioned above, it was a huge positive performance overall.

However, in an Italian interview after the match, Ishikawa expressed his regret by saying, "I struggled a bit in the third set, so I need to improve," which was very much like him.

Meanwhile, Yume Tarumi of Cisterna entered the court as a defensive player during Perugia's consecutive breaks on Ishikawa's serve in the early part of the first set. However, she was unable to show the performance expected of her team, allowing a service ace after her receive was deflected, and she was sent back to the bench before her teammates could get a side out.

Tarumi played for the first time in a while, but failed to make a mark. Furthermore, with OH Rivas, who played in the same position and entered the game midway through the second set, playing well, it will unfortunately become more and more difficult for him to play in the future. If things continue like this, it will be difficult for him to stay in the Italian league next season. Still, I hope he will do his best until the end.
