On Sunday, October 6th local time, in the first round of the first half of the Italian Serie A1, Milan, where Fukudome Keimi plays, faced Pinerolo and won 3-1 (38-40, 25-20, 25-21, 25-20).
After a close first set with over 40 points, the home team Pinerolo won thanks to the efforts of OH Sorokaite (Italy). However, from the second set onwards, Milan took the lead with side attacks by OH Dalderop (Netherlands) and blocks by substitute MB Kurtagic (Serbia), winning three sets in a row to achieve a comeback victory.
L Fukudome made his debut in the Italian league as a starter in this match. Immediately after the start of the match, he allowed the opponent to get a service ace from the first set due to his stiffness, but after that he contributed to his team's victory with a stable serve reception success rate of 48%, super-reactive digs, and careful high sets.
However, he was replaced by the reserve libero from the middle of the second set until the beginning of the third set, but the reason for this is a mystery. In any case, it is wonderful that he has won the trust of the team and played in the starting lineup since the opening game, even though he probably still has some communication issues, such as language issues.
Milan is a strong team with many players who were starters for the Italian national team that won the gold medal at the Paris Olympics, so it is really amazing that there is a Japanese player in the starting lineup among them. It's almost the same as having Yuki Ishikawa in the starting lineup for Perugia in the men's team.

Milan's OP Egonou, a member of the Italian national team, was benched due to injury (apparently undergoing surgery soon), just like in the recent Supercoppa. They played a 3-over-3 system with OH Cazotto (France) in his place, but they were able to play without any problems from the second set onwards. OH Cazotto's toss-up during serve was cool.
It will be interesting to see when OP Egonu will return, but I think she will be able to compete well with the current system. However, I would like Egonu to play against the queen Conegliano.
Pinerolo was close, but it seemed that Italy's second setter S. Kambi was able to make good use of the attackers who had the scoring power. If they can keep up this pace, they may become the dark horse of the season.
