In the quarterfinals of the Coppa Italia in the Italian men's volleyball tournament, Milan, where Ishikawa Yuki plays, played against Piacenza on Wednesday, January 3rd (local time) and won 3-2 (25-16, 20-25, 25-21, 22-25, 22-20). Ishikawa Yuki started the game and contributed to the victory with a team-high 19 points.
Comments from Yuki Ishikawa after the match
-What are your thoughts looking back on the match?
Ishikawa: It was a full set and it was by no means easy, but it was only a difference of one or two points, so I'm just glad we won.
- I think Piacenza was a team that Milan had not been able to beat for the past two years. What do you think was different from before?
Ishikawa: We're in great condition right now, or rather we've come a long way as a team, so I think it was great that we were able to fight in that state. I'm still not in top condition myself, and we still had some bad and inconsistent plays, but overall I think we've become a good team.
-The fifth set was a fierce battle with over 20 points at deuce, and Milan was always on the defensive. What were you thinking about while playing at that point?
Ishikawa: I thought I had no choice but to endure, and if I had gotten a point with a break it would have been a chance, so I broke from Agustin's (Rosell) serve at the end, and I was able to block two serves, so I'm glad I was able to finish in a good way.
-Monza also won the match held at a different venue.
Ishikawa: Is that so?
-Now that both Ishikawa and Takahashi Ai have advanced to the Final Four, what do you think about this?
Ishikawa: I think it was good that Monza was held at Monza, and then we'll go to Perugia, I guess. Tomorrow Modena and Perugia will play, so it all depends on the results. Last year we narrowly lost in the Final 4, so we want to win that and advance to the final.
