We managed to win with a full set!
And Kento Miyaura was the MVP! This is his second MVP since the first game.
Miyaura seemed to be able to play freely in this match, partly due to the return of regular setter Mottapaes. There were many scenes where he blew away blocks and receives with his powerful spikes. He also showed his true colors with his powerful serves, scoring four aces. This is what I wanted to see. After all, his worth is in getting service aces. However, his spikes were blocked and he made quite a few mistakes on his serves, so he will need to fix these areas in the future.
However, what impressed me the most about this game was not his spikes or serves, but his receives. He dove for the balls that fell in front of him, and desperately covered the balls that his teammates managed to get up, so I think his contributions on the defensive side of things were greater than usual. His performances in spikes and serves that lead to points are noticeable, but his dedicated plays in areas that are hard to see in numbers are also moving. I think that defensive ability and a high level of defensive awareness are also strengths of Japanese players, so I would like to continue to make a strong showing of my defensive side in the future.
Personally, I think that along with Miyaura, middle blocker Jurkovics was an MVP-level performer. I think his blocks were a big factor in breaking the bad flow in the first set. In fact, he made nine blocks by himself in this match, turning him into a blocking machine. He also made 70% of his spikes and made zero mistakes. As a result, despite being a middle blocker, he had a great performance, scoring 16 points in five sets. By the way, Jurkovics is 212cm tall. MB Marce, who is opposite him, is 214cm tall, so when you look at the opposite sides of these two, he's super tall (lol).
I was also relieved to see S. Mottapaes back. Although he made some combination mistakes, probably because he hadn't played in a while, his aggressive setting was still good. He also scored 5 points in this match, 3 points from attacks, 1 point each from serves and blocks, and I was personally thrilled to see him firmly inherit the legacy of his senior French setter, Brizard (playing for Piacenza (Italy)).
Overall, Sete had better attacks, but Paris won with better serves and blocks. In particular, Paris struggled with side outs in the rotation after the setter serves, the so-called S1 rotation. I think the key to the next match will be whether they can get side outs smoothly with this rotation.
Our next opponent is Tourcoing, who are currently undefeated and in first place. I'm looking forward to seeing how far we can go!
