On the third day of the second week of the Nations League, the Japanese men's volleyball team played against Brazil and won 3-2 (25-23, 25-21, 18-25, 22-25, 18-16). After the match, we asked Japan's opposite player, Kento Miyaura, to give us some comments.
-Congratulations on your victory.
Miyaura: Thank you.
-First of all, this was your first time in the starting lineup this year, including friendly matches, but when did you find out that you would be starting today's match?
Miyaura: The starting lineup was announced at the meeting this morning, so that's when I found out.
-How was that first game as a starter?
Miyaura: It's been a while since I last played in the starting lineup, so I felt a bit nervous or strange, and I put a lot of strain on the middle players, (Ishikawa) Yuki and (Takahashi) Ai. I think I pushed the opponent's block to the left side, and I think that's still an area where I need to improve. But it's also about getting used to it, and my feelings and confidence, so I really want to keep working on that.
-Even though you struggled in your first start, what were the good things about you as an individual?
Miyaura: I think it was good that he really believed in himself and took a risk at the end, but that's about it. The rest is a real problem, and I think he may have put a burden on the sideline.
- Speaking of the last part, I think Miyaura's service ace at the end of the fifth set was the one that decided the match. How were you feeling at that time?
Miyaura: I just had to attack. Once you get to that point, you have no choice but to attack. That was the only thing I was really conscious of.
-Finally, please say a few words about the next match against Argentina.
Miyaura: First of all, we want to recover today and tomorrow, and then we want to focus on giving our all in the final match against Argentina.
