The men's and women's finals of the European Volleyball Champions League were held in Turin (Italy) on Saturday, May 20th local time, with Vakıfbank (Turkey) winning their second consecutive title in the women's competition, and Sakza (Poland) winning their third consecutive title in the men's competition.
This year's final was a showdown between clubs from the same country, Turkey for the women's team and Poland for the men's team. The venue was Italy, which was neither of those countries, but the stadium was filled with over 10,000 spectators, who were almost full, and the atmosphere was very lively. However, judging from the seats, I think that 30 to 40 percent of them were Polish fans.
Still, it appears that at least half of the spectators were Italian, which makes you realise just how popular the sport of volleyball itself is in Italy.

Women's Final
Vakıfbank (Türkiye) - Ecızacıbaş (Türkiye)
3-1(27-25, 25-17, 23-25, 25-17)
The women's final was a match between two Turkish clubs.
Vakfbank took the first set by a narrow margin of 27-25 after defeating both opposite aces, Egonu (Italy) and Boskovic (Serbia). In the second set, Boskovic lost momentum, but Egonu continued to score points, and Vakfbank took the set comfortably 25-17.
In the third set, outside hitter Voronkova (Russia) and others fought hard and Ecizacibasi took back the set by a narrow margin of 23-25, but in the fourth set, Vakkhbank, led by Egonou, continued to attack with an alarming 73% success rate in team attacks and took the set 25-17 to defeat Ecizacibasi 3-1.
