Miyaura Kento: "I'll do my best to show my growth to my fans, so please continue to support me." Interview after the final game of the season

April 26, 2023

In the 7th-8th place ranking match of the Polish Men's Volleyball League (Przlyga), Miyaura Kento's team, NYSA, played against Olsztyn away on Monday, April 24th local time, and won 3-0 (25-16, 25-17, 25-14).

After the match, we spoke with NISA's Miyaura Kento.

-How do you feel looking back on today's game?

Miyaura: I was in the starting lineup today, and I'm glad we won. As for the spikes, there were more opportunities to score, so I wanted to score more. It was very difficult at the beginning because I wasn't feeling like I was in the match yet, but I think I need to make adjustments during the game so that I can grow more, including in that area.

-What in particular did you feel was the biggest challenge?

Miyaura: Yes, in the first set, I was in a difficult position with the high ball, but I still went for it even though I wasn't in a good position. I think I need to improve on that by returning it to a place that my opponent doesn't like, or by using a block. In the second set, the ball was blocked by the opponent's third player, so I think I could have hit it a little higher and longer.

-Today was the last game of the season. How do you feel looking back on this season?

Miyaura: As a team, I'm glad that we were able to make it to the playoffs and finish within the top eight. I would have liked to win more, but I think it's good that we finished in seventh place. Personally, it was a very bitter season, or rather a difficult one, but I played as a relief server a lot and I think I was able to improve a lot in terms of serving. I wish I could have played more games as an opposite, but being on the bench allowed me to take a look at my weaknesses. Also, since I couldn't play in games, I was able to train and build up my physique, so I think I need to carry that over to the next game.

- The national team season is about to begin, so please say a few words about your activities with the national team this year.

Miyaura: First of all, there will be a battle for positions from here on out, and the tournament will come after that, so I want to show what I've learned here and what I've cultivated in Poland and put in a good performance. Also, this is my third year with the national team, so I want to show my true potential.

-Finally, please give a message to all the fans who supported you this season in Poland.

Miyaura: First of all, this season I didn't have many opportunities to play in games and was mostly a relief server, but I still felt very grateful to the people who supported me and sent me messages. It was also very difficult to stay motivated this season, but that support really helped me, so I'd like to express my sincere gratitude. I'll do my best to show my growth to fans in Japan and overseas, so please continue to support me.
