Miyaura Kento: "I just went in with the determination to give it my all" - Comments after the match against Rzeszow

March 20, 2023

In the 28th round of the Polish Men's Volleyball League (Przlyga), Nysa (8th place), of which Miyaura Kento plays, played against Rzeszów (1st place) at home on Friday, March 17th local time, and lost 1-3 (18-25, 25-27, 25-22, 17-25).

Miyaura Kento was a relief server in the second set and played as an opposite from the middle of the third set, scoring 12 points, tied for second on the team.

After the match, we spoke with Miyaura Kento.

--How do you feel looking back on today's game?

Miyaura: As a team, we had some great serves near the line, so we can be resigned to the fact that we were receiving, but we also had some aces that were aimed at the gap between the players, so we need to value our relationships and work together. I don't do reception, so I can't really say, but I think there were some parts that we could have done better. As for serving, there were clear good and bad times, but overall it didn't feel bad, so we can carry that over to the next game. This time we were at home, so it was easy to serve in the gym, but the next (regular season) game against Warsaw is away, so I hope we can go into it in good condition with our senses. Personally, I came on in the middle of the third set, and I think my serving was good. In terms of my sense, I was good, but I made a lot of mistakes with my spikes. In the third set, I was blocked in the middle, and in the fourth set, I also missed a few balls, so I want to fix that. I think the mistakes in the third set were especially wasteful. In particular, my high balls were blocked, so I want to fix that. As for the mistake in the fourth set, I was too conscious of the passing point and it went out. The spike didn't feel bad, but it went out, so I think that's something I really need to fix during the match.

--Today you had to take on the role of substitute due to an injury to Ventala. What was your mindset when you took to the court?

Miyaura: I was warming up on the bench so that I could be a relief server at any time. Ventala got injured and I was the only one left, so I changed my mindset and just went in with the determination to do my best.

- Regarding spikes, you had a fairly high success rate when the ball was returned to the setter, but you seemed to have a lot of trouble spiking high balls. What did you find difficult about them?

Miyaura: I think I was too conscious of the pressure of the block, and ended up hitting one out. The second time, when the ball was blocked by the front player, I went in too early, and if I had waited until that point and hit the spike, I would have been able to put more weight on it, and I would have been able to hit it with a good jump and in a good position, so I think I just missed the timing there.

--Please say a few words about next week's match against Warsaw, which will be the final regular season game.

Miyaura: We have quite a bit of time until the next match against Warsaw, so we'll take a break, recover, and make sure everyone is in good condition for the next match.
