Yuki Ishikawa: "I need more strength to see it through to the end"

November 23, 2022

In the 8th round of the Italian men's volleyball league Serie A, Milan, where Ishikawa Yuki plays and is in 7th place in the league, played against Piacenza, who are in 8th place, at home on Sunday, November 20th local time, and Milan lost 2-3 (18-25, 25-21, 25-23, 22-25, 13-15).

After the match, Milan's Ishikawa Yuki gave us a comment.

--How do you feel looking back on today's game?

Ishikawa: We started off poorly in the first set, but we were able to get the momentum going in the second and third sets, but we couldn't win the final set and lost. We were leading in the previous match against Verona, but then we were overtaken and lost, so I think we need to be more capable of winning until the end, up to 15 points in the fifth set, or 25 points in the fourth set.

--I think there were some difficult parts today because of the unconventional formation.

Ishikawa: Before the match, we suddenly found out that our middle blocker (Rossell) couldn't play, so we changed to this formation, but even though we started out like that in the first set, we were able to make the necessary adjustments, so I think that was a good thing.

-What do you think of Ishikawa's individual performance?

Ishikawa: I think my serve was good, and my reception was also good. At the beginning, my opponent didn't serve me, so I didn't get many, but I was able to receive well. I was a little shaky, but it wasn't bad. My spikes were shut out quite a lot, and I made a mistake at the end, so I'd like to reduce the number of points I concede there.

--This season has been difficult with no one, including yourself, being in top condition for the games. What do you think about that?

Ishikawa: It's a tough season because other players can't play while my condition is still not perfect, so it's a tough one, but I think I'm learning something different from before. So I don't see it as a negative thing, and I think it's a positive thing, and just being able to have this experience will help me grow.
