On Sunday, October 23rd local time, the fourth round of the Italian men's volleyball league Serie A match between Padova and Perugia took place, with Perugia, who finished first in the regular season last year, defeating Padova at home 3-1 (21-25, 25-12, 25-19, 25-18).
The match report is here ↓
After the match, we spoke with Perugia's Kamil Semeniuk (OH, Poland).
--How do you feel looking back on today's game?
Semeniuk: It was definitely a tough match, but we expected it to be like this. But in the end, I'm glad we got the three points and the win, because that's the most important thing. Padova is definitely a good team.
-After losing the first set, how did you adjust from the second set onwards?
Semeniuk: We made too many mistakes in the first set. There were many mistakes that we shouldn't have made. But in the second set, we were able to stay focused on our volleyball and execute our tactics from the first point, so we were able to change the situation on the court and I think we were able to win the match.
--Your serve was especially good in today's match (Semeniuk served for 5 points in this match).
Semeniuk: Yes. To be honest, I was very surprised because it was my first time playing here. For example, in Przliga (Polish League), when we play in a faraway city, we arrive the day before to check the feeling in the gym. Meanwhile, here in Italy, we arrive on the day of the match, practice only once in the morning, and then start the match right away. There are such differences between the two leagues. Still, I'm glad that my serve worked in today's match.
--But weren't you serving away from Japan's Ai Takahashi?
Semeniuk: Yes (laughs). It was our tactic not to serve to the Japanese players. Of course, we also tried not to serve to the liberos. It's a tactic, so we have to carry it out.
--How do you feel having played in the Italian league so far (this is Semeniuk's first season in the Italian league)?
Semeniuk: As you know, we have won all our matches so far, but there have been some unexpected results in other matches. So we have to focus on each match, especially the next one against (last season's champion) Roubaix, which will definitely be a tough match. But we will do our best to get the three points.
