Polish League 2nd week: Sekita's performance remains impressive despite 2 straight losses

October 12, 2021

The second week of the Polish men's volleyball first division, PlusLiga, has ended.

Rubin, which includes Japan national team setter Seita Sekita, faced Warsaw, who placed third in the league last year. In the first set, Rubin dominated the game with Sekita's specialties of quick and pipe tossing, and even scored a service ace himself, giving Rubin a big lead. However, Warsaw's setter Trinidad, who came in midway through the game, managed to recover and won two sets in a row, scoring mainly on the sideline with Kuforek. Warsaw continued to lead in the fourth set, but they made a comeback in the final stages and went to deuce. Rubin attacked with Walinski, who was a teammate of former Japan national team libero Taichiro Koga, but they were unable to score one more point and lost to Warsaw 1-3.

Kforek was the MVP of the match.

Rubin lost two straight games in the opening round, but unlike the opening match, Sekita played the full game and showed his presence not only with his tosses but also with his serves today. Although he didn't have much speed, he shook up his opponents with his hybrid serves that accurately hit the course. Next up is an away game against Gdansk on Sunday the 17th at 17:30 local time.

In addition, Katowice, who placed 9th last season, won a big victory by defeating Lesovia, a team with a star-studded team of players including the Polish national team setter Zizga. Former Polish national team player Jarosz played a major role on this day with an attack efficiency rate of 59%.

Another big club, Skura, was pushed hard by the lower-ranked Olsztyn, but thanks to the efforts of Serbian ace Atanasević, who returned to the team for the first time in eight seasons this season, they managed to escape the predicament with a 3-2 final. Atanasević scored 22 points, the most of the 22 teams that day.
