On Wednesday, September 17th, Japan faced Libya in the qualifying round of the 2025 Men's Volleyball World Championship (World Volleyball) and won 3-0 (25-20, 25-17, 25-12).
After the match, Japan men's volleyball team coach Laurent Thiry said the following in an interview with Volleyball World:
"I realized that the world's level has improved significantly over the past two or three years. I also learned a lot about our fighting style. I would like to climb back up from here and continue to grow. We didn't achieve the ranking we were aiming for, but I would still like to climb back up from here and continue to improve.
As I have already told the team, we feel embarrassed, frustrated, and saddened by our elimination from the qualifying rounds. However, the players showed courage and determination, despite the fact that this was the result of four months of hard work. I hope they will take this experience to heart and bounce back from it. I am sure we will do better next year.
This marks the end of the Japanese men's team's World Championships.
