There's no particular reason why the top image isn't Suntory. It's because there was no image that could be used.
Now, Suntory Sunbirds have announced a new structure for the 2021/22 season, with Yanagida remaining with the team.
Sunbirds team structure for the 2021-22 season
Suntory won the league championship for the first time in 14 seasons last season, and Yanagida contributed greatly to the victory as a central driving force alongside Muserski, so this is a natural result. It will be a joy for domestic fans to continue watching him play in Japan.
However, as someone who really wanted to see YANAGIDA play in Europe again, the feeling of "Oh, it looks like he's going to stay in Japan forever" just rose up in my mind. I knew it, but it feels even heavier when it's a fact. He's been dropped from the national team, so in that sense, the day may never come when he plays outside of Japan. It's kind of sad.
Looking back, in early March 2020, I went to Poland to watch a volleyball game, and I was planning to go to neighboring Germany to watch Yanagida's Frankfurt match. However, the coronavirus was already slowly spreading at that time, and I had to return to Poland after my trip to Germany, so I gave up on watching the game. Looking back now, it's frustrating to think that that may have been my last chance to see him play in Europe. Looking back now, I could have gone to Germany at that time, but there was little information at the time and I couldn't make such a decision, so it's true that there was no choice, but there was a chance there. Yes, it's frustrating after all.
I don't know what he thinks about his future career as a volleyball player. But personally, I would like to see him play overseas, on a team better than Frankfurt. If possible, I'd like to see him play in Poland, since I wasn't able to see him play in Rubin (I wonder if he'll make a comeback because Sekita is going there (lol)). Well, it's going to be really tough, but I'm looking forward to the 2022/23 season.
