Sanchez: "My strength is using a lot of middle blockers" - Interview at the VNL France tournament

June 24, 2023

On the first day of the second week of the Volleyball Nations League, Argentina played against Bulgaria, with Argentina winning 3-0 (25-18, 25-21, 25-22). After the match, Argentina's setter, Matias Sanchez, gave us a comment.

-How was the match?

Sanchez: Today, I was able to play well within our system. Our serves were great, and if our serves go well, our blocks go well. I think these two things worked well, which is why I was able to play a good match.

-You played in the Polish league this season. How have you used your experience in the Polish league to join the national team?

Sanchez: The Polish league is very strong at the moment, and there are many very good players. Of course, there are many good players on many national teams, so playing in the Polish league is also useful for this national team. Also, personally, because I am this tall (173cm), it is very important for me to achieve results in the Polish league in order to be more likely to be selected for the national team.

-What do you think are your strengths as a setter despite your lack of height?

Sanchez: I try to use more middle blockers than other setters, and I think that's my strength.

-What do you think about this year's Japanese team?

Sanchez: They are very good. They are playing great. I think they have won all their games. If we can play our game tomorrow, we will do well, but if we don't play our 100% in the game, Japan will have a better chance of winning.
