On the first day of the second week of the Nations League, the Japanese men's volleyball team played against Canada and won 3-1 (25-22, 25-17, 24-26, 25-14). After the match, we asked Yuji Nishida, the opposite player for the Japanese national team, for a comment.
-How was today's game?
I have the feeling that my form is gradually returning, but there are still areas that I need to improve on, and for now I think it's good for the team that we were able to win here, even though it was 3-1.
-You struggled in the first set, but I think you started to get back on track from the second set onwards. What changes did you notice within yourself at that time?
Nishida: In the end, I can't do what I can't do now, so I just do what I can. I thought I had to balance things well, how should I put it, and I'm glad I was able to do that.
-At the end, when you served in the fourth set, there was a huge chorus of Nishida calls from the crowd.
Nishida: It's somehow easier to do it overseas (laughs). But it's been a while since I've experienced that unique overseas atmosphere, so it's really fun. Also, there were a lot of kids cheering us on, so it gave us a lot of strength, and I realized once again that Japan is loved everywhere.
-There are three games left in the French round. How do you want to play the remaining games?
Nishida: I think it will be tough considering the current situation, but our first goal is for everyone to stay in good condition, work together, and win. But (today) I thought I could do a lot more, and I believe I can do even more, so I want to prepare in a way that will benefit the team.
