Ebadipour: "It's great to see Iranian and Japanese players playing together"

November 23, 2022

In the 8th round of the Italian men's volleyball league Serie A, Milan, where Ishikawa Yuki plays and is in 7th place in the league, played against Piacenza, who are in 8th place, at home on Sunday, November 20th local time, and Milan lost 2-3 (18-25, 25-21, 25-23, 22-25, 13-15).

After the match, Milan's Milad Ebadipour (OH, Iran) gave us some comments.

--Looking back on the match, how do you feel? I think you were in a different position than usual.

Ebadipoour: Yes, today's match was really tough. We didn't have two middle blockers, so we had one middle and I played as a middle. Of course, I'm not a middle blocker, but I tried my best for the team. And I wasn't the only one who played a different position, so today's match was really tough for us as a team. But I'm very happy. It was a very tough match for us, but everyone in the team did a great job. I don't think we could have predicted this result before the match started. It was almost impossible to play like this without two of our three middle blockers. I'm really happy. My team kept fighting and helped me a lot. I'm also happy because I played well on the court.

Q: If I remember correctly, you've played as a middle blocker before.

Ebadipoour: Yes (laughs). I also played as a middle blocker in Poland. But it was different. I think it was about five years ago (four seasons ago to be exact, the team's manager at the time was also Piazza). The match was against Berlin (in the European Champions League). It was my first time playing as a middle blocker, so it was very difficult. But anyway, it was a positive experience for me.

-What do you think is the difference between the Polish League and the Italian League?

Ebadipoule: I don't think there is a difference in terms of the quality of volleyball. There are only a few small elements that are different. In my opinion, it is block defense. Italy is very good in that regard, but Poland is a little different. But Poland is better in other aspects, so I can't say which league is better. However, I played in Poland for five years and know the Polish league very well, but it's still my first year in the Italian league, so there are some things I don't know very well. Still, in my opinion, the block defense of the Italian league is excellent. But Poland is also excellent in other aspects. That's the difference.

-You are the captain of the Iranian national team, but this season you are on the same team as your rival, Yuki Ishikawa, captain of the Japanese national team. What does he mean to you?

Ebadipoul: He is a great guy. This is my first season in Italy, so he helped me a lot in the beginning of the season. So at first, I was only getting help from him, but now we are helping the team together. This is the most important thing. I think it's great that two Asian players, an Iranian and a Japanese player, are playing together on the Serie A stage. I'm very happy.
