Big jersey numbers are popular in Poland

November 11, 2019

Big numbers are popular in Poland. If you watched this year's World Cup closely, you may have noticed that there were several players on the Polish national team wearing numbers that were hard to believe at first glance. Among them, MB's Klosz wore number 77, but other MB players such as Huber wore number 99 and Simla wore number 95.

This trend of wearing larger jersey numbers has also spread to domestic leagues! In the Polish first division, Przliga, players could only choose jersey numbers from 1 to 20 until the 2017/18 season, but from last season they were allowed to choose from numbers 1 to 99. The first player to wear a larger jersey number was Masny, a setter for Zawiercie, Koga's teammate, who wore number 77.

Number 77 Matheny

However, last season, only 7 players from 6 teams wore numbers over 21. However, this season, the number has increased to 31 players from 11 teams! It's an unprecedented boom in big numbers (lol). To introduce a few of them, Seyed, an Iranian MB player from Olsztyn who has been playing in an overseas league since this year, wears number 66. Tuaniga, a rising American setter from Suwalki who also played in the World Cup, wears number 91. Also, Huber from Poland wears number 99 for his team, Skrabe Uchatov (his teammate Klos wears number 6, not 77 (lol)).

Seyyed No. 66

Number 91 Tuaninga

Huber No. 99

One of the ways to enjoy the Pulsliga this season is to look for players with such high numbers!!! (lol)
