Polish League 2019/20 kicks off!

November 8, 2019

The Polish men's volleyball league, Przlyga, has started this year. As of November 8th, all 14 teams have played 3 to 4 games. Among them, 3 teams are currently undefeated: Zakza Kędzierzynkozyle, Warsaw, and Zawiercie.

Last season's champion, Saksa. Although two key players, Poland's Bieniek and Belgium's Derrow, were absent from last year's team, the team is still going strong this year with the addition of America's Smith and former Italy's Parody. Also, from this year, the coach is former Serbian setter Grbic. Of course, the stable libero-setter line of Toniutti and Zatorski is still going strong this season.

Warsaw made a big leap from 8th place in the 17/18 season to runner-up last year. They also lost the big gun Krek, who was a big hit last season, but they made strong reinforcements such as Nowakowski from Poland and Tille from France. They also invited the famous Anastasi as manager. They were sadly defeated by Zaksa in the Super Cup, which was held before the league, but it is still unclear what will happen in the future. The key to success will be the performance of Poland's OH player Kuforek, who also played an active role in this year's World Cup, and France's young setter Brizard.

Last season, Xavierche made great strides, finishing in 4th place in their second season in the PULSLIGA. The team includes Japan national team libero Koga. This season, they will do whatever it takes to get the medal they missed out on last season. This year, they will once again develop a variety of attacks with the stable and aggressive toss work of 40-year-old veteran setter Masny. Among them, the one who has the highest success rate is Portugal national team OH Ferreira. This team also has some of the most passionate fans in the league! Please keep an eye out for that too lol.

Looking at it this way, it seems that a stable setter and libero are essential for a team to come out on top. However, the league has just started, and in recent years, the teams in the Przliga have been very close in strength and the rankings have tended to fluctuate rapidly, so no one knows what will happen in the future! Last season, Yanagida also played for Rubin, but this season he went to the German league. Personally, I hope he grows bigger and returns to Poland, and I am looking forward to seeing other Japanese volleyballers who can do well in Poland!
