We will show you how to get to the venue for CUPRUM LUBIN, where Masahiro Yanagida is a member.

August 4, 2018

The other day, it was officially announced that Japan national team captain Masahiro Yanagida will be transferred to the Polish Prslyga team Rubin. Yanagida will be the second Japanese player in the Polish league, following Taichiro Koga of Zawiercie. So, this time I would like to introduce the team and how to get to the Rubin stadium.

CUPRUM LUBIN

Kuprum Lubin is a club based in the city of Lubin in the Lower Silesian Voivodeship in southwestern Poland.

The team was founded in 2001 and has been participating in the Polish first division, Przliga, since the 2014/2015 season. In the 2017/2018 season, they placed 7th out of 16 teams and have continued to perform well in the middle of the pack.

In the past, the team has included Estonian representative Tat (currently Izmir), Poland representative opposite Kaczmarek (ZAKSA), Poland representative setter Womachi (SKRA), and Germany representative middle player Boehme (Pireus), who I introduced in a previous blog. From next season, the members will change completely and the team's strength is unknown, but personally, in addition to Yanagida, I am also paying attention to Poland's rising star opposite Ziobrowski, who is just 20 years old, and Estonia's reliable setter Tovar, who is around 40 years old.

Location of Lubin

There is a city with a similar name, Lublin, in eastern Poland, but be careful as it is a completely different city.

How to get to Rubin's Gymnasium

①Go to Wrocław

There is no train line to Lubin, so if you use public transportation you will have to go by bus. There are relatively frequent buses from the neighboring city of Wroclaw, so head there first.

If you are coming from Japan, it is best to fly. There are relatively many flights from Warsaw or Frankfurt to Wroclaw, so it is convenient to transfer at either of these airports. A shuttle bus runs from the airport to the center where the train station and bus terminal are located every 30 minutes. The journey takes 30 minutes and costs 10 zloty (about 300 yen), which you pay directly to the driver when you board (card payments are accepted). This shuttle bus runs from the airport to the center to the train station and bus terminal, so please do not get off at the last stop. There are also local buses, but it is better not to use them until you get used to the area. Taxis are also cheaper than in Japan, so you may want to use them instead of the bus.

For other airport information, please check the website (English and Polish only): http://airport.wroclaw.pl/en/

② Take the bus from Wroclaw bus terminal

The bus station (Wrocław Dworzec Autobusowy) is next to the train station (Wroclaw Glowny). Timetables are available on the website (https://en.e-podroznik.pl, English, Polish, etc.) to check. If you search for Wroclaw to Lubin, you will get several search results, but the one with WROCLAW DA as the departure is the bus from the bus terminal, so take one of them. There are also buses from Wrocław, ul. Joannitów/Dawida, but I don't recommend it (there are many reasons for this, but I won't go into them here). When you arrive at the bus terminal, first check the board to see where to board. Most buses that stop at Lubin end at either Zielona Gora or Grodzisk Wielkopolski, so if the time you searched online is the same as the one you found, and the end is either of these two, then you're probably right. You pay the fare directly to the driver. If you say "Do Lubina" (meaning: to Lubin), the driver will tell you the price, so pay that. It's better to think that payment is only accepted in cash. It's relatively safe to sit near the driver, as he will likely signal you when you get off.
