A Polish wind in the V League!

September 9, 2016

It's been a while.

The Rio Olympics has ended. The men's team was won by Brazil, runner-up by Italy, and third by the United States. Although Brazil came in last in the group qualifiers, they won their first victory in three tournaments thanks to the support of the local crowd. On the other hand, France, last year's World League champions and a team that has maintained good results in recent years, unexpectedly lost in the qualifiers.

Although the Polish team finished second in the group qualifiers, they lost to the United States in the quarterfinals and finished the tournament in fifth place. They have been in the top eight for two consecutive tournaments since Beijing, but they were unable to break through this barrier in Rio. With the European Championships coming up in their home country next year, they need to urgently find a solution to their problems.

Now, after the Olympics, the club team season will start in each country again this year. The Prz Liga will start in Poland, the Serie A in Italy, and the V Premier League in Japan. And this year, for the first time in history, Polish players will play in the V League. And three at the same time. This time, we will briefly introduce the three players.

Bartosz Kurek → JT Sanders

Height: 205cm
Highest point: 352cm
Position: Opposite/wing spiker

Krek, who is already well known in Japan, will play for JT this season. His most notable feature is his extremely destructive spikes. They're brutal lol. However, because he's too reliable, he was overworked even when he was with a strong Polish club team, so I'm worried that he'll be even more so in the V-League.

Michał Kubiak → Panasonic Panthers

Height: 191cm
Highest point: 328cm
Position: Wing spiker

Another familiar name is the captain of the Polish national team. Kubiak is not only powerful, but also a skilled player who excels in defence and technique. He is not particularly tall, so he is one player that Japanese players in particular should aspire to. It has been said that he looks up to the famous Ishikawa Yuki. He was also teammates with Koshigawa during their time in Italy. In short, he is a player not to be missed. However, the Japanese translation of the Polish in the list of team histories on the official website is terrible (Introducing new staff for 2016Please study it properly or ask an expert.

Maja Tokarska → Hisamitsu Pharmaceutical Springs

Height: 193cm
Highest point: 325cm
Position: Middle blocker

The third player is a female player. She is taller than Kubiak lol. I don't watch many women's games, so I can't say much about her, but from watching the video, she seems to be good at broad attacks. Last season, she also contributed greatly to the team's runner-up finish in the Polish league.

This year's V-League will begin on October 22 for men and October 29 for women. I hope that Polish volleyball will become even more popular in Japan!
